US territory was inhabited by the Indians from ancient times. The ancestors of the Indians migrated to America from North-East Asia. The term "red", common as a symbol of Indian popular culture has nothing to do with natural skin color Indians (from white to dark). It comes from the custom of the Red Indians tribe who painted their faces and clothes.

In the North America there were about 400 of Indian tribes. They all spoke different languages and had no written language. However, in 1826, the leader of the tribe Cherokee - Sequoia created syllabic alphabet and in 1828 he began to issue the newspaper "Cherokee Phoenix" on the Cherokee language.

All clothes of men and women were made of dressed bison skins. Men and women were decorated with porcupine needles. Combat shirts, decorated with scalps, wore only the leaders and the most famous warriors of the tribe. In this solemn attire included cloak, which was often portrayed exploits its owner.
