Stonehenge
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, about 2 miles west of Amesbury and 8 miles north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is the remains of a ring of standing stones set within earthworks. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds. Archaeologists believe it was built anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC.

It’s known that three tribes built Stonehenge at three separate times. The Windmill Hill peoples built large circular furrows, or hill-top enclosures, dug around a mound and had collective burials in large stone-encased tombs. The second group – The Beaker people - is thought to have originated in Spain, migrating northwards and colonizing north-west Europe.

Scientists believe they were sun worshipers who aligned Stonehenge more exactly with certain important sun events, such as mid-summer and winter solstices. The Wessex People are considered the third and final group to work on the Stonehenge site.
Britons lived on the territory of Stonehenge. Scientists are sure the Britons were pagans. For their rituals they sacrificed animals. That is why many graves animals were found near it.
