Primorsky krai as a subject of Russian Federation was established in 1938, October 30th. Its area, inhabited by 2,3 mln people, covers 165,900 sq.km.
SPECIFICS OF GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
Free access to the Pacific, specifics of geopolitical situation, immenceness and diversity of territory make the geographical situation of krai promising for development of tourism. Tourism in this country is one of rare industries of active development despite the general depression. Today 180 firms work in the sphere of tourist services.
The main part of Primorsky krai is occupied by Sikhote – Alin Mountains. Soaring relief of Primorsky krai causes pronounced altitude zonation in vegetation.
UPPER ALPINE BELT
Upper alpine belt is represented by lichen elevated tundra, creeping shrud and low grass. Something lower, creeping cedar.
THE BELT OF FIR AND SPRUCE FORESTS
Further down, the belt of fir and spruce forests, with inclusion in North Primorye of spruce and larch, follows. Middle belt is formed by broad leafed and coniferous forests.
To the south, polyspecific black-fir-and-cedar-broad-leafed forests dominated by warmth-loving species are widespread.
