RESHID BEHBUDOV

The great Azerbaijani singer Reshid Behbudov was born in December 14 1915 in Tbilisi. His father Majid Beh- budov was a performer of Azerbaijani mugams. In 1933 Reshid left the high school. He was invited to ‘’Mustaid’’ summer concert held in tbilisi. He performed Azeri national songs with an unexpected success. Later he entered the Railway college. Later he performed the role of Asgar in the operetta ‘’Arshin mal alan’’ (the Cloth Peddler)by U. Hajibayov. In 1946 the film got the government award and they awarded Rashid the state laureate for his performance. In 1956 R.Behbudov became a leading singer in Azerbaijan State Philharmony after M. Magomayev. A year later in 1957 he began to work with Azerbaijan state concert group. In 1965 he organized the first song Theatre and was a main singer and leader of that theatre to the end of his life.He visited a lot of countries;Poland Holland Italy France Portugal Afganistan Sudan Costa Rica Peru UK Finland Iran Turkey China Albania Bulgaria Belgium Ethiopia India Iraq Chile Argentina. He did a lot to develop and make azerbaijani music prosperous.He diedJune 9 1989
