The origin of the name Beefeates
begin with, the name “Beefeater” is uncertain by origin. There are various derivations. No one is exactly sure where the name came from. It would be correctly to say the men guarding the Tower prefer the tittle Yeomen Warder. The Yeomen Warders are referred to as Yeomen of the Guard. The Yeomen Warders in 1485 by the new king Henry VII, the first monarch of Tudor dynasty. According to one of the derivations of the name “Beefeater” the Yeomen of the Guard were called “Buffetiers”, the word seemed to be found in French. In 1741 Baron Bielfield says they were popularly known as Roast-beef-Beef-eaters. They eat as much beef as they wanted from the king’s table. An early historian started, “A very large ration of beef is given to them so they are called Beef-eaters”. This name was carried over to the Yeomen Warders.

Diet
Yeomen Warders were given a daily ration of meat for their duties. Records show that in 1813 the daily ration for thirty men on duty was 24 lbs of meat, 181 lbs mutton and 16 lbs veal. But the real beefeaters are thе ravens of the Tower which are given beef either!

Key ceremony
The first marks of the name Yeoman are founded in the Anglo-Saxon- Scandinavian epos “Beowolf” of the 7 th century. Yeomen Warders participate in the attractive Ceremony of the Keys. This makes a visit to the Tower much more enjoyable.

В Тауэре сегодня находится королевская сокровищница ,где хранятся королевские регалии – короны, державы и скипетры, а также все, связанное с чином и обрядом коронации.

The story about the Oldest Warders and the first Beefeaters is not restricted by the facts mentioned above. I’m very grateful to my teacher because I’d like to continue my experience in exiting field of the English language and its history.
