In 1438, the Bulgar fortress was captured by the Golden Horde Khan Ulu-Mukhamedd, the city became the capital of the Kazan Khanate. During this period, the production of leather, pottery, and weapons developed. Kazan had trade relations with Moscow, Crimea, Turkey and other regions. After the capture of the Tatar-Mongols, the territory of Volga Bulgaria is included in the state founded by the Tatar-Mongols — the Golden Horde. In the XIII—XIV centuries, Kazan was experiencing growth, becoming an important trade and political center as part of the Golden Horde

In 1708 Kazan became the capital of the vast Kazan province. Kazan is one of the largest industrial, financial and trade centers in Russia, one of the leaders in investment and construction in the Volga region. Kazan occupies a leading position in Russia in terms of the availability of modern shopping centers. In terms of the total capital of its own banks, Kazan ranks 3rd in Russia, second only to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The city is home to Russia's largest Technopark in the field of high technologies "IT Park", as well as one of the largest technoparks in Europe - "Idea". Kazan has the only electronic trading platform outside Moscow for placing orders for federal needs. In the rating of the most favorable cities for work from Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Kazan took 174th place — the highest among Russian cities.
